On the final Friday of November, Podkoren hosts a large gathering of parkeljni,the Slovenian relatives of Krampus, with groups arriving from three countries for a fire-lit procession through the village. Masks, bells, smoke and flame turn the evening into a deliberately theatrical expression of an older Alpine winter tradition associated with St. Nicholas. The event has grown into a festival in its own right, followed by an afterparty beneath the linden tree in Podkoren.
