One of Central Europe's longstanding literary gatherings, Vilenica brings Slovenian and international writers together across a deliberately cross-border program. The 2026 festival explores the theme Fluidity of Identities, with readings, discussions and literary encounters in Ljubljana, the Karst, Trieste and other locations. The festival ultimately returns to the landscape that gives it its name, with the closing Vilenica Prize ceremony held inside Vilenica Cave near Lokev.

Valvasone's medieval center becomes the stage for several days of historical performance, food, music and craft during Medioevo a Valvasone. Taverns open through the village, costumed performers occupy its streets and squares, and the castle and surrounding public spaces host music, archery, theatrical events and demonstrations. The scale remains intimate enough that the architecture does much of the work, allowing the entire borgo to become part of the setting.

Held since 1393, the Bleiburger Wiesenmarkt is one of Lower Carinthia's major traditional gatherings. What began as an important trading market now combines the historic market with a fairground, food, entertainment and a large opening procession. Its location in Bleiburg, or Pliberk in Slovene, gives the event particular resonance in a part of Carinthia where Austrian and Slovenian cultural traditions continue to meet.

For more than two weeks, Klagenfurt's Tage der Alpen-Adria Küche places the city's food culture within the wider territory around it. Visiting chefs, producers, restaurants and special events draw connections among Carinthia, Slovenia and northeastern Italy through dinners, tastings and market gatherings. Rather than presenting Alpine-Adriatic cooking as a single cuisine, the festival is most interesting when neighboring traditions, ingredients and techniques sit beside one another across the city.

Friuli DOC spreads across central Udine for four days devoted to the food, wine and agricultural traditions of Friuli Venezia Giulia. The program moves among city squares, courtyards and streets, with tastings, regional producers, workshops and performances alongside familiar products such as San Daniele prosciutto, Montasio, gubana and Friulian wines. The festival unfolds through Udine rather than being contained within a fairground, making the city itself part of the experience.

The Brda Contemporary Music Festival brings creative music and improvisation into the wine villages of Goriška Brda. Its 16th edition again centers on Medana, with performances in intimate village venues. The festival deliberately creates a meeting point among Slovenian, Italian and international musicians, while also bringing contemporary music into conversation with visual art and poetry. The borderland setting is integral rather than incidental to the program.

Vipavska trgatev marks the grape harvest season in the Vipava Valley with four days of wine, food, music, exhibitions and local markets. Known locally as b’ndima, the harvest brings the valley’s vineyards and cellars into their busiest period of the year, and the festival turns that agricultural moment into a public gathering in Vipava. The 2026 program includes a wine fair, farmers’ market, children’s activities, exhibitions and cultural events, with much of the activity centered around Lanthieri Park.

Kamnik's largest annual heritage event brings traditional dress, ethnography, music, food and craft into the streets of the old town. More than a simple costume parade, the festival explores clothing as regional and social heritage, with participants representing traditions from across Slovenia and beyond. The centerpiece comes on Sunday afternoon, when the large traditional-costume procession moves through Kamnik.

The Alpen-Adria Genussmeile brings producers from Austria, Italy and Slovenia into Klagenfurt’s historic center for three days of tasting and regional exchange. Around 46 exhibitors gather between Ossiacher Hof, Alter Platz and Neuer Platz, with olive oils, cheeses, truffles, wild herbs, wines, organic meats, sweets and coffee among the products represented. As the culminating public event of the wider Tage der Alpen-Adria Küche, it makes the region’s cross-border food culture unusually tangible, bringing Carinthia, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Goriška Brda and neighboring areas together at street level.

St. Veit an der Glan's Wiesenmarkt combines an old market tradition with ten days of fairground activity, food, commerce and Carinthian custom. The opening procession is one of its defining moments, bringing traditional groups through the city before the market settles into its longer rhythm. Despite its scale, the Krämermarkt and regional traditions keep the event connected to the historic role of these annual markets as points of exchange for surrounding communities.

For ten days in October, Barcolana shifts Trieste's center of gravity toward the Gulf. The program extends far beyond the famous Sunday regatta, with sailing events, exhibitions and gatherings on land and water throughout the city. Boats fill the waterfront while Piazza Unità and the surrounding streets become part of the event's public life. Few annual events express Trieste's relationship with its gulf as completely.

Ljubljana's major running weekend places races directly through the center of the capital. Saturday's program builds from children's and school races to the 10 km, while Sunday brings the half marathon and marathon. With the start, finish and service areas concentrated within central Ljubljana, the event temporarily reshapes the pedestrian life of the city as much as its streets.

For three autumn days, the calli and campielli of Grado’s historic center become a route through the region’s food and wine culture. Tastings, themed itineraries, meetings and entertainment bring producers, restaurateurs and visitors together across the old town, with particular attention to the relationship between Grado, its lagoon, the culture of the sea and the wines of Friuli Venezia Giulia. Returning for its second edition in 2026, the event is designed to be experienced on foot, moving through the historic center rather than gathering everything in a single venue.
