Barcolana 58
For ten days in October, Barcolana shifts Trieste's center of gravity toward the Gulf. The program extends far beyond the famous Sunday regatta, with sailing events, exhibitions and gatherings on land and water throughout the city. Boats fill the waterfront while Piazza Unità and the surrounding streets become part of the event's public life. Few annual events express Trieste's relationship with its gulf as completely.
Barcolana Grado SUP Experience
Barcolana opens beyond Trieste with a stand-up paddle event through the waters of the Grado lagoon. Participants begin at Spiaggia Imperiale, with amateur and competitive courses following the island before finishing at the historic Mandracchio. It is a smaller Barcolana event, but one that places the lagoon landscape itself at the center of the experience.
Barcolana 58: Coppa d'Autunno
The main Barcolana regatta begins at 10:30 AM in the Gulf of Trieste, with the starting line positioned between Barcola and Miramare. Thousands of boats gather for a race whose scale has made it one of Trieste's defining annual spectacles. For visitors on land, the waterfront and city center provide the public vantage points, while the dense field of sails turns the gulf itself into the day's principal image. It is the culminating event of Barcolana 58.
NLB Ljubljana Marathon
Ljubljana's major running weekend places races directly through the center of the capital. Saturday's program builds from children's and school races to the 10 km, while Sunday brings the half marathon and marathon. With the start, finish and service areas concentrated within central Ljubljana, the event temporarily reshapes the pedestrian life of the city as much as its streets.
Kärnten Läuft
Kärnten Läuft brings a full weekend of running to the eastern shore of Wörthersee, with its Running City based at Metnitzstrand in Klagenfurt. The program ranges from the Friday evening Night Run to family and junior events on Saturday and the Wörthersee Half Marathon on Sunday, which runs from Velden back toward Klagenfurt. The setting makes this as much a lake weekend as a race weekend, with much of the activity concentrated around Europapark and the waterfront.
