Held since 1393, the Bleiburger Wiesenmarkt is one of Lower Carinthia's major traditional gatherings. What began as an important trading market now combines the historic market with a fairground, food, entertainment and a large opening procession. Its location in Bleiburg, or Pliberk in Slovene, gives the event particular resonance in a part of Carinthia where Austrian and Slovenian cultural traditions continue to meet.
